Matt Gaetz unveils clever, yet brutal, legislation to oust ‘pencil neck’ Schiff from House Intel Committee

Rep. Matt Gaetz not only revealed a new resolution aimed at removing House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff from his position, he provided a clever and bold way to do it.

The Florida Republican targeted Schiff for his part in pushing the collusion theory between the Trump campaign and Russia and used the president’s nickname for the California Democrat to introduce it Wednesday.

Gaetz explained his resolution, titled “Preventing Extreme Negligence with Classified Information Licenses Resolution” – or “PENCIL Act”- in an appearance on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight”Wednesday.

“I have filed legislation today, sent to the House, that Adam Schiff needs to be removed from the Intelligence Committee, because how are the rest of us supposed to be able to rely on a man, who you just showed, lied to the American people when he said that there was not spying? Or when he lied and said that there was actual evidence of collusion or clear evidence of collusion?” Gaetz said.

The “PENCIL Act,” a nod to “pencil neck,” Trump’s recent nickname for Schiff, also seeks to remove the Democrat’s security clearance.

“If Adam Schiff is able to review covert operations and intelligence, and if we have to rely on his representation, our whole system is broken,” Gaetz continued. “It would be like putting Lori Loughlin in charge of the college board. It would be like putting Jussie Smollett in charge of the hate crime of the FBI.”

Schiff has continued to press for more investigations and more testimony regardless of the fact that special counsel Robert Mueller has concluded the two-year investigation and found no collusion. Yet the House Intelligence Committee chair declared “you can see evidence in plain sight” and even suggested the committee could subpoena Mueller and Attorney General William Barr.

All nine Republican members of the Intel Committee sent a letter at the end of March calling for Schiff to step down.

“The findings of the Special Counsel conclusively refute your past and present assertions and have exposed you as having abused your position to knowingly promote false information, having damaged the integrity of this Committee, and undermined faith in U.S. government institutions,” the GOP lawmakers wrote.

Gaetz told Carlson Wednesday that there are even Democrats in Congress who are feeling “betrayed” by Schiff.

“There are Democrats in Congress who feel betrayed, because like the rest of the country… they were told that there was actual evidence of collusion, that this was going to happen, and a lot of those very Democrats went out on a limb in the campaign, right, and promised their voters that this evidence would be turned up,” Gaetz said.

“Now we know the whole deal was fake. It was a lie. And really, I think a lot of the narrative has been a cover-up for the fact that under the Obama administration, our intelligence community got so politicized at the upper levels that they allowed political opposition research to justify something that should never happen in this country. And, you’re right, it should never happen from either side,” he added.
